Me Nancy Nyota
Me Nancy Nyota is the founder of Nyota Avocate, a law firm based in Gatineau, Quebec. A passionate lawyer deeply committed to upholding people’s rights, she supports her clients with rigour, attentiveness and compassion. Her practice is built on a fundamental belief: every person deserves to be heard, respected and supported in defending their rights.
Education and Professional Background
Me Nyota has a strong legal education acquired in Europe and Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master’s in Business Law from the Université de Rennes 1 in France, as well as an LL.M. in International Business Law from the University of Exeter in England. She also holds a Licentiate in Law (LL.L.) from the University of Ottawa, which she earned magna cum laude.
A member of the Barreau du Québec, she is also authorized to practise law in Ontario. Her international background and professional experience give her a deeper understanding of the personal, family and social realities her clients face.

She sits on the board of directors of the Association des familles monoparentales et recomposées de l’Outaouais (AFMRO) as an administrator, and on the board of the Association des avocates et avocats en droit de la famille de l’Outaouais (AADF) as a director.
She is also involved in mentoring young women who want to develop their potential, pursue their ambitions and build their future with confidence. By sharing her experience, she hopes to help the next generation thrive and to encourage women to take their full place in society.

Me Yvette Meta holds:
A college diploma in legal studies from Collège La Cité (with high honours)- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.L.) from the University of Ottawa (cum laude)

After passing her bar exams, she joined the team at Nyota Avocate, where she had previously worked as a legal assistant and articling student, giving her practice a nuanced understanding of both human and legal realities.

A rigorous and attentive lawyer, Me Meta practises primarily in family law, administrative law and immigration law. She supports her clients with diligence, compassion and professionalism in matters including divorce, child custody, support payments and protecting the best interests of the child.

A polyglot, she speaks French, English, Lingala and Tshiluba fluently. She is committed to making the law accessible and inclusive.
